Davidson River Campground

I have visited the Davidson River campground several times. The area is located in Transylvania County, North Carolina, and is close to Brevard and Hendersonville. The quickest way to get there is from within Brevard NC. It is at the foot of the Pisgah Mountains, not far from the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Rivers and streams around the Davidson River support a many of fishing opportunities, some of which are backcountry trout fishing at a place called Cove Creek, stream fishing at Avery and Looking Glass Creeks, also trophy brown trout and rainbow trout can be caught on the Davidson River proper. I have seen many fishermen at or about the bridge at the entrance to the campgrounds.

Davidson River Campground is located in western North Carolina, about 4 miles east of the town of Brevard. The road to the campground from Brevard runs along the river. This campground is also situated along the Davidson River, providing for a few easy, pleasant river-side walks. The grouds have fire rings, picnic tables, gravel pads for tents, steaming hot showers, and bathrooms.

Quaint rental cabin high up in the mountains, surrounded by forests. Superb lodging.

This is a picture of a rental cabin not far from Davidson River Campground. It is located along with five other cabins, and can be found by driving up into the mountains past the Davidson River Campgrounds, over the mountains to the other side.

For those not renting cabins, folks like to fish, hike, bike, tube and sight-see. I have seen visitors floating in inner tubes down the river ajacent to the camp grounds. Local attractions are Looking Glass Falls, the popular (and cool) Sliding Rock, a State Fish Hatchery and the Cradle of Forestry Discovery Center.

Davidson River Campground is open all year round. The cost to dump your RV septic tanks is nominal and the dump station is located just part the gate house on the left.

The campground has electric and water hookups for RV's as well as paved parking spaces.

Since it is located in the Pisgah forest, you can expect the surrounds to be plesant with large trees everywhere....very green

If you have a bicycle, bring it! I have enjoyed riding through the camp ground. It is quite large. There are two additional camp grounds:  Cove Creek and White Pines Group Camps, available for large groups.

A few major roads meet nearby (the intersection of Highway 280/64/276). From there, go north on Highway 276 for a one mile. The camp ground is well signed, and on the left over a small bridge that crosses the Davidson River. At this intersection are several large stores and restaurants. Nearby is a Lowes.

Cellphones seem to stop working right after leaving the town of Brevard and entering the forest! Reception seemed to be spotty at best within the Davidson River Campground.

Nearby places are: Brevard, Sliding Rock, Hendersonville, Pisgah National Forest, Lake Toxaway, Highlands, Asheville, The Biltmore House, Rosman, Hyw 64 .
